Client

becker&mayer! books was a leading creator, producer, and manufacturer of innovative books for adults, as well as engaging books and toy products for children. Many of the book products they developed were released through other publishing companies. Founded in the 1980s, becker&mayer! was once part of the McEvoy Group, which also owns Chronicle Books. In 2016, they were acquired by Quarto Group's U.S. subsidiary, Quarto Publishing Group USA. Their clients included Lucasfilm, Scholastic Books, and CBS.

Project

One of our clients, CBS, requested concepts for their Star Trek intellectual property (IP). The creative team developed a family of crafting books to present to the client. Among the chosen concepts, this book combines cross-stitch instruction with a beloved classic TV series, presented in a modern layout. Honoring the look and feel of the show, the book features an easy-to-follow instructional design.

I originated the designs for this book concept, drawing on my deep knowledge of Star Trek: The Original Series and my passion for crafts. The concept was approved by the client with minimal changes, and my initial design carried through strongly to the final published product.
